Tammy Witherspoon, President

 

Tammy Witherspoon is a native on McComb, MS.. She is married to Anthony Witherspoon. They have 2 sons Anthony ll and Amani.

She is a 1986 graduate of McComb High School and a 1991 graduate of Jackson State University, where she hold a bachelor degree in Elementary Education. In 2003, she obtained a masters degree in Special Education from Alcorn State University where she graduated highest distinction.

She is a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the Natchez Chapter of the Links.

She is the owner of Sankofa Preschool Academy and Witherspoon Allstate Agency.

On November 1, 2010 during the McComb City primary election, Mrs. Witherspoon became the first African American women elected to the city board of McComb. She ran unopposed her second term. In 2015, Mrs. Witherspoon was elected to serve in the Mississippi State Legislature as the Senator for District 38, the first women to serve in this seat. She was re-elected in 2019 for her second term. In 2021 she succeeded her husband as the first Female elected to serve as Mayor in Pike County.

In 2011, she was named Woman Of Distinction from the Negro Business and Professional Women Club. In 2017, she was inducted into the McComb High School Hall Of Fame.
